NORFC U18.5
Nenagh Ormond under 18.5s played Thurles in the first round of the Pan Munster
this weekend. Nenagh got off to a great start with a try in first few mins. A brilliant
50/22 kick from Charlie Talbot had us attacking well inside the 22, there were good
carries from Luke Slattery, Jack Tierney and Hugo Healy who made the space and
some good hands from Oisin Ryan, and Liam OBrien Dunne put Jack Gleeson away
to dot down in the corner. The difficult conversion was missed. From the restart
Nenagh were awarded a scrum and from this Anluan White went on a mazy run and
in contact offloaded to Hugo Healy who showed good composure and beat the
defence on the outside to score in the same corner, the conversion just drifted wide
of the posts. Thurles responded with a try in the corner to get them on the score
sheet. Nenagh got a foothold in opposition 22 from the kick off and from a scrum
Anluan White broke and was held up over the line. Thurles scored again soon after,
a turnover in midfield had Nenagh on the back foot, and then a clever kick from their
10 and a good bounce for the Thurles winger helped to score under the posts.
Thurles led 12/10. Back came Nenagh with real intent and scored again soon after. A
clever drop off from Kaden Fogarty resulted in a penalty for Nenagh just inside the
22. A quick tap was taken, good carries from Hugo Healy, Luke Slattery and Jack
Tierney drew in the defence. The ball was moved wide to Dara Gaynor who fed
Oscar Griffin who dotted down.
Extras were not added. Half time score 15-12 to Nenagh. Second half Nenagh had it
all to do as they were playing against the wind in the second half. The first 15 mins of
the second half was a real ding dong battle with both teams making errors when in
good attacking positions. Nenagh got the next score. Oisin Ryan picked a good line
which had the defence on the back foot. Next phase Ben Madden fed Alex Monko
who did well to take man and ball. The ball was then moved against the grain to
Luke Slattery, who dummied and went through a hole and on doing that fed Oisin
Ryan who passed to Oscar Griffin. Oscar still had it all to do, he beat the winger on
the outside and then also beat the 15 to dot down in the corner, Charlie Talbot added
the extras to leave score 22/12. From the drop off Hugo Healy made a great break
and from that Dara Corish brought play inside the 22, but an unforced error resulted
in a scrum to Thurles. For the last 10 mins Thurles really came back at us, but the
defence held firm and a good lineout steal relieved the pressure. With a minute to go
Thurles scored a converted try. From the drop off Nenagh retained possession and
James Graham kicked the ball off the field. Final score 22-19 .
