Nenagh Ormond R.F.C. support the I.R.F.U. policy on mental health.
By providing a safe, welcoming and supportive environment, rugby clubs already provide vital support to people’s mental health. This includes providing access to exercise and friendship, that helps reduce isolation, increase social skills and self esteem. We were delighted to welcome Ciaran Carey Counseling Services to the club to speak with our underage panels.
Ciaran and his colleague, George gave an excellent presentation on all aspects of mental health, emotional fragility, the importance of taking care of your own mental health and of "living in the day". They also spoke of the dangers of addiction and the ease at which people can fall into addiction to the detriment of themselves and their families. Ciaran and George further talked about the need to be a good teammate and to look out for any team members who might be going through issues with their mental health, including how to recognise this and how to help.
The presentation was excellently delivered and very informative. Thank you and very well done to Ciaran and George.
