Nenagh Ormond under 16s played Mallow at home in the second last game of the pan Munster group games. After the loss away to Kinsale Nenagh were very eager going into this game to get back on the winning track. Nenagh started well after kicking off and had the opposition under a lot of pressure. From this pressure Mallow looked to clear their lines however Harry Walsh was running the ball back extremely well on the counter attack. Nenagh broke the deadlock with 5 mins gone. After multiple phases Fionn Wallace carried at top gear at a good angle and powered his way over the line. Marcus Finn added the conversion. Nenagh kept the momentum going and were moving the ball effectively. After a ruck in midfield the ball made its way to Shaun Murphy who drew the last defender and passed to Jack Gleeson who showed good pace to score in the corner. From the kick off Mallow retrieved possession and were unlucky not to score, with some very good first up tackles to keep them at bay. Once Nenagh got their hands back on the ball with a scrum in midfield, Ben Madden broke the line after cutting a super angle. Ben got as far as the 5 metre line and Cody Sheedy moved the ball swiftly to the other wing where Cian Murphy collected and scored. Nenagh got one more score before the break. Aidan Ryan made a break in midfield and threw a super pass to Aidan Steed who wasn’t going to be stopped from outside the 22. That left Nenagh leading 24 – 0 at the half time whistle.

After the break Mallow seemed to up the ante and came back at Nenagh. Some heroic defending kept them out.  During the game there was a number of dominant tackles by David Mulcahy and Aidan Ryan. Nenagh scored next to effectively end the game as a contest. Aidan Steed had the initial carry and after Luke Slattery broke the line he drew the last defender and passed to Robbie O Brien who scored under the posts. Mallow got the next 2 scores to breath life back into the contest at 31 - 14. Their powerful number 8, 12 and 13 were starting to find gaps as the game wore on. Mallow’s second score seemed to get Nenagh going again and Tadhg Teefey finished off a well worked try after multiple phases. Aidan Steed followed up with his second try and Tomas Tierney after coming on was making good yards in close contact which created an opening for Jack Gleeson to score his second try. Mallow showed real determination to score again. Their powerful runners were running from deep and their 13 broke the line to score under the posts to leave the final score 48 - 21. Overall, it was a fast moving game, with both teams showing great elements of play in attack and defence. Nenagh play UL Bohs at home next Sunday in the last group game. Training continues Wednesday and Friday.
